THE OLYMPIC THEATER

Teatro Olimpico - foto-Giampiero Pozza

The Olympic Theater, Teatro Olimpico, has been strongly desired by the Academy since its inception.
The design of the building was proposed by Andrea Palladio and works started being executed just a few months before his death. It was completed by architect Vincenzo Scamozzi, his successor.
The theater, in line with Palladio’s design, replicates the architecture of ancient Roman theater: it consists of a cavea, a proscenium, and a fixed architectural scene representing three streets of ancient Thebes. The peculiarity of these perspectives is that they resemble Renaissance streets (perhaps even Vicenza own streets) and not those of a Greek polis.
